Embrace Presents:
OH WONDER Algonquin Commons Theatre, Ottawa
October 24, 2016

English alt-pop duo Oh Wonder are coming to Ottawa’s Algonquin Commons Theatre on October 24, 2016.

Bolstered by their initial online success, Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West have quickly become indie favourites around the world. Their popularity grew from a measured approach, the band self-releasing a song a month for a year.

They were steady. They were patient. It was a method that allowed them to tease out their identities as they worked toward a finished record, all the while growing buzz and curiosity across the music blogs and with SoundCloud listeners.

“They’re songs about humans, and about people being there in your life,” says Josephine. “People need people. And that’s what this album looks at, from all the different angles: it’s about being grateful for the people in your life, for relationships of all sorts.”

Interestingly, the face-to-face relationship with their audience and fans was slow to start. In fact, it wasn’t until September 2015 – a full year after Oh Wonder began recording – that the band made their first live appearance, playing to a sold-out hometown crowd.

But while it was a shy beginning, they’ve quickly flipped the coin. To make up for a year spent on the internet, Oh Wonder have been hitting the road hard in 2016 – embarking on a gigantic world tour that includes major festival appearances at the likes of Bonnaroo, Firefly, Osheaga, Lollapalooza, and WayHome. Their live schedule will continue through to the fall of 2016, including their debut performance in Ottawa this October.
